MDC Skin Care Tips

  • USE A SUNSCREEN! The sun can cause extreme damage to the skin. It can cause cancer, age skin, and worsen pigmentation. No matter how dark your skin is you need sunscreen! Use a sunscreen of at least SPH 30+ at the end of your daytime skin care routine. You can also use a moisturizer with SPH 30+ but keep in mind that the SPH could be diluted by other ingredients.

  • Cleanse your face for AT LEAST 60 seconds! This ensures that you get a deep cleansing. The longer the better but at least 60 seconds is recommended for both oil cleansing and regular facial cleansing.

  • Massage products into your face. Use this as a time to meditate, relieve stress and tension from your face muscles, and relax! You really wanna work your products in whether it’s a cleanser, moisturizer, toner etc. This esthetician gives a good example of how to work products into your skin  watch MDC is all about self care.

  • Do not be harsh on your face.  Being too rough and abrasive can cause irritation and worsen acne.

  • If you want to increase product absorption tone between each skin care step instead of just after cleansing. Ex:  (Cleanse, tone, exfoliate, tone etc.)

  • Keep your face as clean and bacteria free as possible. Keep hands and hair out and away from your face, change your pillowcase(s) often (switch to silk or satin ones, they won’t absorb as much oil and acne causing agents), don’t dry your face with dirty/used towels (opt for paper towels if possible),

  • Drink LOTS of water. At least 8 cups a day.

  • Consume moderate amounts of dairy, alcohol, sugary/salty foods and drinks. These all can cause acne and alcohol dehydrates your skin.

  • You may experience skin skin purging. Here’s an article on the difference between skin purging and breakouts if you’re interested or don’t know what skin purging is. how-to-tell-the-difference-between-breakouts-and-skin-purging

  • Be mindful that hormones affect skin as well, hormonal breakouts from birth control, around your period, and during menopause are especially common with women.

  • Cleansing tools like cleansing brushes, rags, scrubs and other physical exfoliants can be too abrasive for skin, especially sensitive skin which can irritate the skin and  worsen acne. Moderate your use of them or stop using them all together. Chemical exfoliation (lactic acid, glycolic acid, mandelic acid, etc) is much more gentle and effective in most cases.

  • Try what you can safely at home, but seek professional help from a dermatologist or an expert if you can.
